Library Implements New Authentication System

ACC students and employees have access to thousands of subscription resources free of charge.
Currently ACC enrolled students and ACC employees are eligible to use the Library subscription online resources - databases, eBooks, full-text articles, streaming video. You are prompted to login with your ACCeID and password.

ACC Libraries have an incredibly strong and robust digital library that supports the curriculum and research needs of our students, classroom faculty, and staff and is available 24/7.

Every e-resource in the library collection (ebook, streaming video, journal article, image) requires authentication in order to verify whether a user is affiliated with ACC and should be granted access to licensed and copyright-protected materials.
ACC Library Services uses a program called OpenAthens to interact with the College's login system (Okta) to verify that you are eligible to use these digital resources.
What is OpenAthens?
ACC Libraries use OpenAthens to authenticate our users. OpenAthens is SAML, cloud-based, and importantly, is single sign-on compatible. OpenAthens works with Okta so that an ACC user who has already logged via that system will not have to login again to access library resources.

Some questions you may have:

  • Q: What are my login credentials?
    • A: Login with your ACCeid and password. Don't know your ACCeid or password? Find it here.
  • Q: If I change my password, how long is the delay before I am authenticated?
    • A: It takes anywhere from 1 - 2 hours for the new password to be updated in the system.
  • Q: If I am already signed into Blackboard, do I have to sign in again to library resources?
    • A: No. Once you have authenticated via another ACC service such as Blackboard or ACCmail, you will not be prompted again to login to library e-resources.

    Textbooks in the Library??

    image of textbooks
The Library does not purchase textbooks as a rule.
So why can we check out textbooks from the Library?

Although the Library does not purchase textbooks for all ACC campus libraries, we do shelve the ACC Student Support Center Textbook Collection at the Highland Center Library.
What is it?  It is a collection of textbooks selected for classes offered in workforce programs. These textbooks are purchased by the ACC Student Support Center through a grant to assist certain student groups to gain access to required textbooks. The majority of ACC textbooks ARE NOT in this collection.  Books are in limited supply and students should not depend upon this source for their required textbook.
What is the Student Support Center?
ACC's Student Support Center provides specialized assistance and referrals to a select group of students who would benefit from additional assistance to overcome challenges and complete their education. The Support Center maintains a collection of textbooks for students to borrow and gives priority to students receiving assistance. Other students may request a loan after the first week of classes.
Who can check the textbooks out?  Most students are not eligible to check out textbooks from this collection BEFORE the second week of classes. Visit with staff in a Student Support Center BEFORE the semester begins to determine your eligibility. Eligible students will receive information and required forms to begin the process.

    Halloween
Check out this information from one of our databases
    World History in Context

"The history of Halloween began with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, the last day of the Celtic year. The holiday was celebrated at the end of summer and the beginning of winter, as days became shorter and nights..."

"The wearing of Halloween costumes in America reaches back into the country's cultural history. This shared American folk ritual is a window on the diverse ethnic and religious heritage of the people who settled the United States."

Faculty Publications, Research, Exhibitions, and Performances Information Plus Guide

ACC Library Services is pleased to announce the debut of the Austin Community College Library Services’ Faculty Publications, Research, Exhibitions, and Performances Information Plus Guide. We are excited about showcasing accomplishments of our full-time faculty’s outstanding creative output to the ACC community - as well as the wider world - in an online format. Those faculty included in the Guide responded to a call for submissions that went out in May to full-time faculty. The goal of the Guide is to maintain a dynamic environment; therefore, there will be a second call later this Fall, complete with guidelines and instructions.

In addition, now that the pilot is up and running, adjunct faculty will also be invited to participate after the first of the year.

The Guide is included in the list of Library and Subject Guides accessible from Library Services’ home page – library.austincc.edu or directly from researchguides.austincc.edu/facultypubs

Although we will be maintaining the Guide within our list of guides, faculty should feel free to link the page with their entry or the guide in its entirety from their online syllabus or CV.

Each year two Guide participants will be featured in READ posters and bookmarks, and the Guide will be advertised via the library’s and college’s social media as well as traditional outlets.

Thank you to all who responded so far. We had to ‘start small’ to work out the best possible way to design the content and highlight accomplishments. Watch for our invitations to expand our coverage later this Fall!

Confused about checking out textbooks from the library?

Not all textbooks are available in the library. Most must be purchased from the bookstore or other places. Learn what textbooks you need.

The Support Center Textbook Collection is a special collection of books purchased through a grant by the ACC Student Support Center to assist certain student groups* to gain access to required textbooks.

ONLY these special student groups* have access to the textbooks through the first week of classes.

After the first week of classes [starting the second week of classes], general credit students can checkout textbooks from this collection.
