October 2013 Information Literacy Awareness Month
Join Governor Rick Perry and Texas Libraries for Information Literacy Awareness Month.
"... simply having access to information is not enough. We must also know what it means and how to use it. The ability to search for, understand, analyze, evaluate and synthesize different forms of information is crucial to effective decision-making. We must ensure that Texans of all ages are equipped with the tools and skills to use information resources to think critically and creatively....
At this time, I encourage all Texans to recognize information literacy's role in our businesses, education, health care, defense, government, economic prosperity and quality of life."

National Voter Registration Day - 24 Sep 2013
Register to Vote!
Q: What is National Voter Registration Day?
Some helpful sites:"In 2008, 6 million Americans did not vote because they did not know how to register or they missed their state's voter registration deadline, according to the US Census. In 2013, we want to make sure no American is left out.
On September 24, 2013, volunteers, celebrities, and organizations from all over the country will "hit the streets" for National Voter Registration Day. This single day of coordinated volunteer, technology and media efforts will create widespread awareness of voter registration opportunities--allowing us to reach tens of thousands of voters or more who we could not reach otherwise."
